My career with the USPS began in 1973 as a letter carrier at a Southern California postal facility. From 1974 to 1986, I held postal clerk positions at five different postal facilities in Southern California. Duties at these offices included mail delivery, mail processing, letter sorting machine (LSM) operator, special delivery messenger, expediter, and responsibility for handling and distribution of accountables (i.e., registers, certifieds, and CODs) to letter carriers. From 1986 to 2007, I held management positions at one management sectional center (MSCs), one division, and two district offices, one of which was a division prior to the 1993 restructuring. Three of the four positions, from September 1986 to October 1994, were as an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) representative. The last position I held, from October 1994 to January 2007, was as a Workplace Improvement Analyst, an internal consultant.

In the position of Workplace Improvement Analyst, I analyzed workplace issues, provided consultation to the leadership on how to improve the workplace climate, and gave feedback and coaching services to district leaders, including two of the lead executives of the district. I provided a detailed analysis of the district's Voice of Employee (VOE) survey each quarter and mediations, retention studies, and workplace climate assessments were conducted. I provided recommendations on change management, and I utilized various assessments tools to improve managerial communication and leadership skills. Additionally, I had a central role in the development of the national threat assessment team (TAT) guidelines and zero tolerance policy statements and procedures. Effective January 3, 2007, I retired from the USPS after thirteen years in this position.
