Well, maybe all of you have already gone through these adjustments, but the Seattle area is in the middle of it. I'm not necessarily complaining, mostly giving you all that haven't gone through this a heads up.

About four months ago we had a handful of managers from other stations come around the station with large printout maps detailing each route. The lady I got was friendly enough, she asked about my line of travel and which addresses were on which corner, etc. The reason they gave is that they wanted to put in NDCBU (or whatever they're called) boxed to save time for the carriers on the street. This is ludicrous because our delivery annex caters to bored millionaire housewives with personal trainers, gardeners, and nannies. The neighborhood somehow had the city construct phone and electrical lines underground because it would have affected their views. We explained this to deaf ears and the ten or so managers drove around and verified the info we gave them.

Two months ago we were all walked with by our supervisors or manager. Our mail volume is at least half the volume from May-July than any other time of the year.

Last week we were handed a stack of papers with our new adjustments. Four routes were eliminated. The carriers had less than four years of seniority. We have 50 routes in our station. When carriers complained, they were/are told that this was agreed mutually with our union and the management.

This has happened to at least four stations over here. Not all stations lost routes, in fact one station had very little change. This station has hardly any OT, our station is highest in the city.

Lots of rumors are going around to why this happened. It's almost as if we're being punished for using too much OT. Some say it's a former station manager that is a relief-whatever-made-up-position who had his fingers in it.

Again, this is a heads up. I'm still a little in shock. I'm anxious to see what and how this will work. It takes effect July 31st.

We all just got the second part of our adjustments- Line of Travel. They changed every one's LOT and they are a riot! They've combined two or three swings into one swing and gave detailed instructions on when to move, where to turn, park, etc. One carrier has a route by a freeway entrance that has four lanes. His instructions are to make a U-turn on this street. It's one way. I cannot wait. We're all going to be handing mail to our co workers, the clerks don't know the new scheme. I heard someone ask our Union rep, "How did you make out on the adjustment?" He says, "I got a raise!"
